They were $100 each and shipping was $10 for both, they arrived a few days later. I ordered two backup cylinders by calling harbor freight. Shortly afterwards, due to being a dumbass, I sheared a cotterpin that resulted in that cylinder getting bent. The one review about the hydraulic cylinder not have the nut attached inside the ram was correct - mine fell off too, but had it fixed within 30 minutes. It's not easy, but it's possible, to push these things too far. I've used to relocate about 150 cu yds of dirt. Ripped out dozens of juniper stumps, just ripped out a large elm today. Probably 200 hours on it over the past two years. The last I looked they still run a private family business and refuse to become "corporate".I love ours.
#Rural king tool box review harbor freight plus
Several decades ago a guy started importing cheap tools and junk and traveling around selling from back of his car.He eventually learned what was junk and what his customers wanted, and forged reationships with the actual factorys and opened a storefront and started stocking a more stable inventory plus introduced new items.Įventually he and his son became partners and began opening stores all over this country where today their products continue to improve and they are becoming a leading importer of better and better quality items.Where we rely on them more and more to offer a very stable inventory and trust them to continue to improve their products. HF has learned to be very careful before they introduce a new product line like these tool boxes where they can expect to continue stocking them for many years and customers learn to trust that they won't wake up next week to see what they bought yesterday is no longer offered. So that is the primary reason you see same items pictured twice or several times at same price, but with different Item numbers. The other reason is several factorys produce the EXACT same item at same level of quality where nothing is new or changed. You have to remember that HF deals with those Chinese factories daily where those Chinese guys really compete hard for a contract with a huge retail outlet like HF that has sales in the billions and a very loyal customer base.so as soon as the latest HF product hits the shelf those guys grab it up and examine it, and attempt to make it mo better and less costly to HF.They add a few extra features and improve QA and even now a days assist in design in hopes they get to make the next million gidgets HF displays, and at the same historic retail price we all have learned to expect from HF. SO FAR, what I have discovered is that the items with the numerically higher item numbers are their very latest versions of that item and incorporate improvements in design, quality and sometime extra features that make it simply mo better and not done to grant them cost savings. If you notice on their site, you will often see what appears to be the exact same item but pictured twice or even more times for same price, but with different item numbers.
I got 4 of these things and looking for a reason to fetch another.īefore anyone here runs out and plops down money at Harbor Freight, allow me to try to explain a few things about the products. Not their junk consumable stuff, but the more expensive things like these tool boxes. Right now, this particular cabinet is on sale for just $189.It weighs 125 lbs, has reinforced bottom drilled to accept standard casters, and can be hung on side of most roll arounds, sat directly on floor or casters, or even slid under/designed into you welding table or cart.
Recently, they started shipping this cabinet with 4 barrel keys per box, not two.Once again that makes it lots easier to control access in a multi man shop where up to 4 guys can have access without you trying to find locksmith to cut extra barrel keys, or leaving keys hanging where anyone can grab them. In the other picture, note how all drawer slides are equally spaced, with 1 slide on shallow drawers, and two on deep drawers. That means you can easily swap drawers one above or below the other, or if you have several of these cabinets you can swap drawers around to where one cabinet is all shallow drawers and the other mostly deep drawers. I just want to point out a few details that I consider a BIG plus in addition to their super high quality and QA.Īt the back of each drawer is this riveted in shiny plate, huh?.If you drill out the rivets and remove/save the plate, that drawer will no longer lock but all the remaining drawers lock.SO, if you desire to restrict access to certain tools/materials in a multi worker shop, but keep some drawers available to all, then it's easy. It's a simple matter to reinstall the lock plate later. Before you guys fuss at me, I'm sure most of us are aware of the newest tool box offers from Harbor Freight.
